In October 2021, the number of perfect scores for the TOEIC public test reached 100. Since quitting my job in 2010, I have only been doing TOEIC-related work other than working at the school where I work. Every day is a life full of TOEIC, including classes, writing, research, exam supervision, and entrance exams. Still, I never get tired of TOEIC and continue to work happily. One of the reasons I fell in love with TOEIC so much that I specialized in it is Part 5 (short text fill-in-the-blank problem). There is one blank space in a short sentence of about 15 words on average, and the vocabulary and grammar knowledge necessary to use English is tested. Each problem has the fun of solving puzzles and Tsume Shogi, and the exhilaration of solving them. I'm addicted to Part 5, so I'm not satisfied with just solving it, and with the help of native speakers who are familiar with TOEIC, I've created thousands of questions so far. This book condenses the essence into 160 questions. In all 10 TOEIC public tests I took in 2021, Part 5 (300 questions in total) was the correct answer to all questions (all 100 items in the ''Understanding Vocabulary and Grammar'' section at the bottom right of the score sheet). This is because they are familiar with the question patterns and solve them with the correct way of thinking. In this book, we will share with our readers the path to solving this problem. The question pattern in Part 5 (30 questions) is almost constant. Every time, after taking the exam, I remember the question points and correct answers from Part 5 and record them in an Excel file called the TEX file. The question types and average number of questions for Part 5 in 2021 are as shown on the next page (numbers are based on personal research by TEX Kato). Of course, there may be some fluctuations depending on the session, but there will be no major deviations from this question trend. The English sentences asked in Part 5 of TOEIC are limited to content commonly used in daily life. Additionally, to maintain exam fairness, question authors must maintain a constant difficulty level each time. For these reasons, in Part 5, a set pattern of questions is asked each time. Therefore, if you focus on this question range and study intensively, you can efficiently improve your score. When we analyzed 10 years of past questions using TEX files, we found that the grammar questions asked at TOEIC can be subdivided into approximately 100 patterns. This book covers the main question patterns, except for those with extremely low question frequency. In addition, when solving Part 5, we have presented 82 golden rules that everyone should know. If you put this gold rule in mind, the correct answer rate for grammar questions on this exam should be significantly improved. However, the Golden Rule indicates the basic way of thinking when solving problems, and does not guarantee a 100% correct answer. In this exam, you may sometimes be asked the question of ''breaking the rules,'' which seems to take advantage of the preparation book. If you have the basic solutions in mind in this book and can respond flexibly to such problems rather than sticking to the rules, you will be an advanced person. Although this book does not cover vocabulary questions, important words that were asked as vocabulary questions in this exam have been adapted into grammar questions or included in question sentences. Don't just solve the problem and match the answers, please follow the steps below. 1. Read the first explanation of the chapter and get the basics of how to solve it in mind 2. Solve the problem 3. Read the explanation and understand the reasons for correct or incorrect answers 4. Put the rules of money into your head 5. Understand the meaning of the entire sentence, including words and syntax 6. Listen to the audio and read it aloud over and over again while looking at the ''example sentences for reading aloud'' at the end of the book 7. We will review the ''Random 160 Knock'' at the end of the book by solving it If you take these seven steps, you should not only improve your grammar, but also your vocabulary and speed reading skills. If you are an advanced student who is already familiar with TOEIC's question patterns, you can suddenly try the ''Random Knock of 160'' at the end of the book.
